documents relating to property abroad
If you own a property abroad, are planning to buy or sell a property abroad, then you may be ask to have certain documents notarised.
Documents commonly required for an overseas property transaction will be a notarised Power of Attorney and notary certified copies of your identity documents, such as you passport.
The role of the Notary is to verify the identity of each client, assess their legal capacity and their understanding of the document. In the case of identity documents, the Notary can also confirm that the copies of the documents are true copies of authentic originals.
After the documents are notarised, they may also need an Apostille and possibly Consular Legalisation, depending on whether its destination country is signed up to the Hague Apostille Convention. In the UK, the Apostille is issued by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. The Apostille/ Legalisation is obtained following notarisation and will enable the foreign country to accept the document as a validly notarised document. Failure to obtain it when needed may mean your documents will be rejected for use. I am able to arrange the Apostille / Legalisation for documents when necessary after notarisation.
